ThinLinc
ThinLinc is a so-called remote desktop client. With ThinLinc you can
obtain a graphical login to the G-Bar; when you connect to the G-Bar
through ThinLinc, the programs are run on the DTU servers. Therefore,
by using ThinLinc, you can gain access to the G-Bar no matter where you are,
as long as you have an internet connection.
How do I use it?
It is very easy to use ThinLinc. Please note that the username and
password in the following are the ones you have been sent. If you
have changed your password, you need to use your new password.
- Start ThinLinc (On Linux: /opt/thinlinc/bin/tlclient)
- Enter server name: thinlinc.gbar.dtu.dk, username and password
- Click Login
When you want to start a program, it is done by middle/right clicking
on the background, or with IceWM — like in Windows — by pressing
the start button in the left corner of the desktop. By doing this,
a menu with programs appears. In the bottom of this menu you will find
Logout, which is used when you wish to exit ThinLinc.
If you have started ThinLinc in full screen, but wish to work on
your own computer, you may press F8 to get a couple of options —
you can for instance exit full screen, or change more
technical settings.
Install
- ThinLinc is available from the DTU Software Download. Please note that newer versions than the ones referenced below may be available.
- Linux
- Debian derivatives (e.g. Ubuntu)

If you use SUSE there is a package that may ease the installation somewhat. ThinLinc will be installed using SUSE's package system.
