Introduction

XFE is the file manager used in the G-Bar. It's very versatile and very configurable. It shows thumbnails of images, and provides an intuitive way of browsing the system.

The File Manager

XFE browser

The XFE file manager can be found in the menu under Desktop Environment->XFE. If you doubleclick on a known file type XFE will launch the appropriate program. Note, that you can change this behavior to suit your specific needs at any time.

Icons can be added to the desktop simply by dragging them there. The desktop can be changed by right clicking on home and choosing backdrop. You can then drag an image onto the dialog and watch the background change.

Trashcan

XFE has a trashcan which may be used to temporarily store files before permanently deleting them. The default setting is that files are permanently deleted directly without the use of the trashcan. We urge you to disable the trashcan if it is not already done. This can be unmarking the flag as shown in the image. The G-Bar system takes snapshots of the system.

Troubleshooting

Filebrowser shortcut in XFCE panel

If you get an error about a missing gbarstart key for ROX, while attempting to run XFE through the filebrowser shortcut in the XFCE panel, then run the following command from a terminal:

/bin/rm -r ~/.config

If you are uncomfortable or uncertain if you really should delete the .config folder, please visit the G-Bar supporters at the office.
